FindMyPast and GEDCOM

Quote from Michael Henry on 2024-06-25, 5:38 amHi all,
I took advantage of FindMyPast's 30% discount offer (which just finished), but I'm frustrated by the lack of the same level of integration that Ancestry and FamilySearch have in RootsMagic. All I can think, for now, is to export GEDCOM from FMP, use it to create a new RM tree, and compare that with my main RM tree.
How do people keep GEDCOM files (from FMP and elsewhere) and RootsMagic trees in sync? Are there any tools to make this easier?
Regards,
Michael

Quote from Pat Jones on 2024-07-31, 12:00 pmI use FindMyPast as my main research source since I'm English and they generally have the best data for my counties. Anything I find there is screen-grabbed into my OneNote notebook and images downloaded, then in slow time (when the subscription runs out), I bulk load the media (drag and drop and some SQL to set fields) and manually enter the facts and citations. I then delete any tree on FMP and upload a complete new tree with the same name and the current date to keep track of when it was created. I don't add anything to the FMP tree online - it isn't necessary.
Even if Ancestry is the source I do the same as I will not TreeShare anything into my RM database - it just makes such a mess and does not use my nice census and parish record templates or put images where I want them. If I want to play with Ancestry hints I make a "research" copy of my master databases and use that to link to Ancestry and get messy.
