Let's hope any schema changes are for the better and migrating existing work is easy!
Also, $10 coupon on upgrades and new purchases through the end of October.

Quote from Tom Holden on 2026-10-08, 7:22 pmHeard this from you before receiving the notice from RM Inc. Just a week after Family Historian 8 and a month or so after Heredis 2027.
Interesting differences in their approaches to AI. RM has no integration which, for privacy reasons, might be a virtue. Heredis optionally connects with a French AI service, primarily for transcribing images to text and creating citations. Family Historian seems to be able to connect to your choice of AI services also with a degree of agentic interaction with the database.
And then there was a story in the RM FB group how someone uploaded their RM database to Claude or ChatGPT and got a report from it that RM could not provide! What could that mean for privacy on the one hand and for the likes of us SQLite techs?
Also, I was surprised that I saw no mention in the RM announcement of support for FamilySearch user trees which FH8 includes along with FSFT, both for the first time.

It is surprising that there is so little structural development.
Equally surprising is the reduction in built-in Source Templates from 415 to 19. When a database from a previous version is opened by RM12, the conversion retains only those source templates used by sources in that database. I guess that means any of the added templates that were built-in in the earlier version now become custom or user-defined, editable templates in RM12. That needs checking - I've only been looking at the empty database from RM11 compared to one from RM12.
An empty RM12 database is much smaller than one from RM11: 512 KB vs 2036 KB. After Compacting, both came down to 496 KB. That's the smallest empty RM file since the SQLite database was introduced in version 4.

Quote from kevinm on 2026-10-10, 8:06 pmConfirming that all pre-V12 Source Templates get converted to User-Defined (TemplateID > 10,000). Data Dictionary page has been updated to reflect these new changes.
I was pleased to see that the SourceTemplateTable.CitationName field allows you to customize the default citation name based on Source template. This has been asked for since RM8 was released.
