Update wanted for Media Duplicates - Reports and Remedies
Quote from Tom Holden on 2024-08-01, 6:48 amQuoted below is a new comment by @jteas on Media Duplicates – Reports and Remedies . The short answer is that the scripts were developed at RM 7.5.9 and errors can arise when used on RM databases from later versions. Moreover, the whole procedure is very complex and dependent on Ccleaner and TreeShare behaviours which may have changed in the five or so years since publication. Updating to work with RM10 databases may prove daunting. As an alternative have a look at what Richard Otter has developed much more recently: New App Aids RM Media Management

I have never used this script before out of fear because it looks complicated. I decided to give it a try tonight because I am so sick of my media folder getting so large due to the creation of duplicates.
I made a copy of my database and ran Media-DupThumbnailsList.sql and got a list of 169 pairs of potential duplicates, which was a much smaller number than I expected. But whatever .... I copied the list and pasted it into an Excel spreadsheet in case the next step messed things up. It also gives me the ability to print and save the list.
Next I loaded and executed Media-MergeDuplicates.sql and got an error No such table - LinkAncestryTable, so obviously this script is not compatible with RM 10.
Is there any chance of getting the script updated to work with RM 10? Or is there another method I should use? Remember, I'm not SQL-literate 😉
I've got about 35,000 images in my media folder (I'm a lumper) with copies of important ones stored in individual family folders for safekeeping. I estimate that at least 20% of these files are duplicates. I am trying to upload a screenshot of some of the worst offenders, but don't see an option to upload. I'll try in another post.

Quote from kevync on 2024-08-01, 12:42 pmI have an excel tool (via ODBC connector) that could be adapted to identify them. (Uses the built in Power Query -- so it probably not work in other non excel version or old versions of Excel around 2016)
Currently it had 4 tabs. (the last tab does something else) so I would need to add a 5th. As for the media it would need to be in one folder.
- Check for Media that have no links
- checks Media folder (on local computer) notes file in folder but not in RM Database
- check RM Database media gallery -- notes files in RM but in local computer media folder (does not support multiple folders in this version)
