How to fix more than one media file is checked as primary

I'm not going to edit my most recent post, but I think most of my theorizing about causes was bogus. The problem is only for when more than one media file for the same item is marked IsPrimary. Copying facts and merging people couldn't do that when the item is a fact like what I have because RM never merges facts. So, bogus. But maybe the same idea could still apply when the media files are tagged to the person record (the PersonTable) because RM does merge those.

thanks for looking into that -- it seemed from what Jamie described the media was linked to people and not facts.

Any duplicate primary media for people could conceivably be caused by merges. What I was trying to correct was the notion that my particular duplicate primary media could have been caused by merges. 100% of my duplicate primary media was for facts, and facts cannot be merged in the same sense that people can. So in my case, at least, there has to be some other cause.

Well, I am eating my words too!  I found that the problem with multiple primary media shows up in my tree in August (and probably earlier) before I did the dragging and dropping.   So who knows ............  Next I am going to uncheck all media and see if upload works.  If so, I will run the script to check the first media file as primary and see if I can upload to a new tree.  Will let ya'll know!

Did you use repair broken Media tool "recently"?

I use enhanced properties and repair media links frequently.

BTW unchecking primary media did not make a difference re: upload via tree share,  It stalled like before at 99%.

I have discovered two instances where the Media tool fubared up my MediaTable
Not sure why it occurred -- only that the tool cause the issue.  RM IT Team kept trying to blame other things  that were not related.  I replicated the issue from a backup about 5 different ways. I was able to fix the issue only because I knew sqlite.  This happen back in summer.

the result was 600 MediaItems that were messed up by the repair tool.
The were duplicate but then had no media links on one of them .
What I did over the summer  was originally had  ONE Media folder for ALL RM Media (no subfolders).  I had over 17,000 media -- so I created about 10 subfolders and categorized by: Birth, Death, Marr,  Burial, Census and so on.
After I moved everything (which was fairly easy due to my naming system) -- I then ran the tools to assign the correct location.  That is when RM Media Tool  messed about hundred of files -- there were actually two problems I do not recall the specifics of the the other group of media that also need to be fixed. So while I do not think this is likely to happen to most people -- I think because RM does not always clean up the fields in the tables it might lead to issues sometimes.
