New RM9 Data Dictionary Project
Quote from Kevin McLarnon on 2024-03-23, 1:44 pmAs Tom mentioned in his earlier post, we've launched an initiative to update we the RootsMagic v9 #database" documentation. The RM9 Data Dictionary project webpage is live.
I am looking for help with the project from members of this community that have database and/or SQLite skills and want to ‘pay forward’ the wealth of information that this site continues to provide. Jerry Bryan and Richard Otter have already agreed to help and I am hoping to engage others. Together we can lighten the load, so don’t be surprised if you hear from me in the next few days. And don’t hesitate to reach out to me via this thread or by commenting in the V9 Data Dictionary project worksheet if you have any questions or see an error or omission in the project content.
I’d like to briefly cover two related items:
- First, everyone should be aware that Richard has a Rootsmagic Database Design project active on his github site. It’s also accessible from his website. While the projects take different approaches on how to present RM database structures, the content is largely the same. Later today I hope to finish up the crawl through both repositories, documenting anywhere that table information differs. The goal is to keep content details synchronized, though there will be some differences in where each project focuses deep dive efforts. The takeaway message is that we are collaborating on this effort to document V9 database details and will share updates as each project progresses. The differences should largely be related to form (presentation) versus content.
- The second item is how best to collaborate as we go forward. The V9 Data Dictionary project webpage is the primary focal point for the project. It provides a quick and simple way to let everyone see both project status and details. The project worksheet document is open for comments and, hopefully, will be an easy form for folks who want to contribute updates. I’ll also be monitoring this site’s forum and blog posts for anyone who prefers to comment using these tools. Lastly, I anticipate the need for a different method of collaboration among those who are helping with the project - whether that involves contributing updates or reviewing suggestions made by others - and am confident we can sort that last bit out as the project progresses.
All comments are welcome.
Thanks,
Kevin

Quote from Kevin McLarnon on 2024-03-25, 10:43 amMar 24 - Pushed first set of updates to the RM9 Data Dictionary Project webpage and set Project Status =Active. The detailed list of updates can be seen on the change log tab of the project worksheet document.
Also made a minor change to the File name of the Project docs to more accurately identify the RM release version. The new format ends with "RM release version - Date last synched with website". For example, the current embedded file on the webpage is named "RM9DataDef-V1_3-20240324 website".

Please reply here or add a comment in the project spreadsheet if you find any errors or omissions. And if anyone works closely with the FamilySearch API and/or LDS data, a review of the FamilySearchTable and EventTable.Status columns would be welcome.
