As of 5.0.4.2, RootsMagic does not provide a comprehensive report on how each entry in the Address List is used – is it merely a Contact or is it the address of a Person or Family (couple) in the tree database? This query provides a list which helps answer that need.
RM does provide a comprehensive report on how each Repository is used by Sources, To Do tasks and Correspondence. Because Repository addresses are stored in the same table as Contact, Person and Family addresses, this query includes summary information on the usage of all addresses.
The query results are laid out with the basic address information in the left columns and the usage report in the two right-hand columns, User type and Used by. The basic address data includes Name, Street, Place, Primary. Place is the reverse concatenation of City, State, Country which affords a convenient geopolitical sort when ordered alphabetically. Primary indicates whether the address is Primary (Y) or Secondary (N), applicable only to Repositories.
The query has been tested on SQLiteSpy with the dummy RMNOCASE extension.
AddressHowUsed-RM7.sql rev 2021-07-03 for cleaner results for Contacts. Incompatible with RM8
I was hoping to find out where some Family addresses appear in RM7. In the Addresses list (RM8) are entries with two record numbers associated with it. RM8 shows the two names and their record numbers. RM7 gives no clue as to who an address belongs to. When I go to those two people in RM7 and look at their addresses, the text from the Addresses list is not there.
Does this query not work on RM7? I received the following error message when I ran this query on RM7.

You will receive that error from a RM8 file, not from a RM4-RM7 file. ResearchTable is present in all .rmgc files but not in .rm8 files.
I closed the database and tried again and made sure that I opened a RM7 database; the file is: TEST.rmgc
I ran the sql query and still get the same error.
Send me your file so I can see if the problem is reproducible here.
What SQLite manager are you using? I recommend SQLiteSpy for simplicity as it only allows one database to be opened.
I was using SQLite Expert Personal 5.4 (x64). I tried again using SQLite Spy on the same database and now it worked!
I’m not quite sure what the results means, though, if that will tell me where I can find family addresses. Will have to study it and try to figure it out. Thanks
Address for a family (couple) will be labeled “Family” in the field User Type and the field Used By will have the names of the couple.
In SQLite Expert, the SQL operates on the database selected (highlighted) in the sidebar. Probably you had a non-RM db selected.
Thanks for your help. If I could attach a screenshot here, I could show you that I did have a .rmgc database selected in SQLite Expert Personal. But since it works in SQLite Expert, that’s OK with me.

Your question about subscribing to comments and replies on blog posts has opened my eyes – I thought all registered users could get them! I do but only admins and post authors do without the addition of another plugin. I will look into that.
Meanwhile, what you can do is to subscribe to the RSS feed (see Meta menu on right side).
And, yes, the Forum does have subscription options that the blog does not so it is currently advantageous to use it and simply refer to the blog post.
